Ibiza boy. I totally understand how you feel. If it were me I would challenge her. I have worked in situaion where the boss chose her staff from her friend, and the rest were not really cared about. If you work in a a shop which is part of a chain then I would be calling admin at the central office to find out your position in this. I wouldnt stand for it. If you let this...

actually, i'm really confused. On bobbi's thread you just wrote "Totally agree Bobbisox1. i was in retail for 43 years, was offered redundancy last year and chose to take it."
so how can you have been there for 11 years? If you've worked there for fewer than 2 years, they can get rid of you for no reason.

in my thread i was talking about my partner, but instead of keep typing that i said me to keep it simple. in Bobbisox1 question/thread that is actually me.
FGS - Just say no.

My OH goes on loads of training courses. If they booked one for a Sunday he'd just laugh at the them. Not a hope he'd go in unless they paid him silly money.
. If you didn't sign up to work on sundays then you shouldn't be made to work on that day, even for a training session.
Why not raise your concerns with the area manager. This is also what the employees who have holidays booked should also do. How much advance notice was given and when were the holidays booked

Calmck. it,s quite ironic really, i suppose i should have mentioned that the manager has sent a "messenger" message out to those who use it but even though it,s been shop floor talk for a week now she still hasnt got the staff together to tell them or even put a poster up. so if you are not on messenger, and some are not, then technically you still don,t know about it. !! ( that,s the kind of manager she is, loud, gobby and leopard skin leggings)
If it's a chain they probably have an HR dept. Phone them and ask where you stand.. It might be worth downloading the laws on Sunday working and having them handy. I wouldn't go in as it may affect your opt out. Setting a precedent that you will come in on a Sunday.

In order to let everyone know the outcome of my question. Well i suppose i was right from the start. 4 people never went in, they don,t work Sundays. The manager said "it wasn,t work it was training" however as i said " i,m being paid, so it,s work" She,s just a bossy boss who throws her weight around. so if you stick to the rules and your principles all is fine. we all still have jobs ( and i think she knew anyway, she was just trying her luck) End of.!

If you let this go, then She will always take advantage. Her managers need to know.
I have now read your question more thoroughly. It is part of a chain. She can't sack you. You have nothing to lose. She is pushing her luck. I presume you have a written contract.
And our posts crossed!!!! Great result.
I somehow missed a lot of answers. A few really silly ones. Some people are not aware of employment law including bosses! Glad you stuck to your guns.
