Accountants

To all accountants everywhere i dedicate this post.
As my days are numbered, which doesn't bother me, this afternoon I decided to get my affairs in order......just in case, you understand and I spent some 3 bloody boring hours, with gross, monthly, tax, interest rates to make life after sqad as easy as possible.
It was taxing, boring, exasperating and utterly exhausting , which made me think.
Give a thought to accountants who do this morning, afternoon, day in day out, year in, year out...............I admire them.
What is it like for the wife, married to such a special person?
Accountants.......take a bow......you deserve such accolade.

Accountants, complete waste of money, but of course it does depend on how big a company/ complicated your accounts are. In twenty years of self employment I only used one for the first three years, and that was just to find out what you can and cannot claim for, and mainly how the accounts should be presented.
Even if you use an accountant, and the inland revenue decide to have a poke about, the accountant will just inform the inland revenue that they have only translated to them the information provided by you, so they are always in the clear, in other words you are on your own, so you may as do it yourself. Providing you keep on top of it, its not a chore.

My younger brother is an accountant and his wife is also an accountant, they have been married for 26 years now, so are they 2 special people ?

My husband was a company accountant with an American company.
Prior to that he worked for the Deutsche Bank.
Highly qualified because he spent five years learning the ropes and had to pass exams etc.Old accountants never die. They keep their balance in check and carry on doing spreadsheets and he's been retired now for 17 years :)

If my neice's husband is anything to go by, they get through the tedium by thinking about the nice, fat fee!

Nothing at all against accountants, quite the opposite, the instigation of my thread was to bring to the fore, the day t9 day working life of these people after my transient affray with amateur accountancy.

I have always needed an accountant - evva since 1975 when I laboured in Egypt for free ! - well I learnt arabic and we found a famous Latin poem ( elegiacs by Gallus from Qasr Ibrim) -and my dear leddy mama said to the tax man - - "oh! he's working in Egypt!"
Years of troule over undeclared income. - just for one little ( inaccurate and completely wrong ) phrase. Worf their weight in gold

In a nutshell they just copy what you have supplied them with, and present you with a gross, expense and net. The presentation of the spread sheet to the inland revenue, and a copy to you is what you dearly pay for, but not what is demanded by the revenue. As I said @ 23.00 a complete wast of money. Providing you keep all paperwork for the past 7 years job done.

When I used to tell people that I was a qualified accountant there would often be a comment like "God, I bet that is so boring...." or "didn't you ever want to do something more interesting?"

And I would say that just to ease the boredom of being an accountant I went to work for companies in South Africa, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Finland, travelled all over Europe and Scandinavia, the Middle East, Australia.......portable qualification....

Very big companies will always need the services of an account and could not possibly function without, that's why they are normally part of their full time staff

if you are going to train as a book keeper - keep off AAT - they took £2500 off each learner and then failed 91% of them
