1d unwet hidden in clue
7A- a homophone, the plural is a back street in London.

15A- part of a meal

30A- one of those subtractive anagrams- remove the abbreviation for “saint”.

35A- a shortened version of “Henry” around a synonym for “but”/“”although”. It’s in Chambers.

2D- anagram

22D- anagram of “my one” + a synonym for “box” as in “punch”.

34A A + a term for timid people (plural of an animal), which will give you a type of clerical garment, verifiable in Chambers.

Also, your “G” in 34A is wrong.
7A - Your S is wrong. All you need is a cat's normal sound.
15 - Yes
30 - Subtractive anagram
35 - Shortened form of Henry round yet
2 - Anagram - Dad/onion
22 - something you would carry your cash in for safety
34 - G is wrong - you need a 4 letter word for timid creatures

Just got 2D!
Just noticed your A in 22 down is wrong.
Matakari,I was expecting you to be fully proficient in subtractive anagrams after the help given recently!
PS You'll have noticed that the theme is very British this week.

Thanks, all, for the enlightenment! A few to go
to complete the list of county towns. Thanks
in advance!
38 ( A ) Mac’s mites upset drink in high school (5) : ?SET?
42 (A) ‘Attention!’ one said (3) : E?E
3 (D) Victory attends soldiers Edward saluted back (9): R?G?EUT?D
7(D) Witticism of Voltaire alternatively Bentley? (5) : ??T?RT ( RETORT)?
38A - Your S is wrong. You need a three letter drink reversed in the usual two letter abbreviation of High School.
42A - Think of another word for one when talking about yourself. The answer is a homophone of that.
3D - Your U is wrong
7D is only five letters - a French word for witticism usually preceded by bon + a two letter word meaning alternatively.
7 Mot, witticism of Voltaire(thought you'd get that!)+Or, alternatively. Motor, Bentley.
38 Your S is wrong.
42 Ere/'Ere, sounds like Hear.

Many thanks, all! Coming to a close now!
A confirmation for the last two towns...Are
my letters right?

8 (D) W?R?
32(D) DE?R?
Yes
Matakari, glad you/we got it finished!
Question Author
Thanks, NACW! A nice touch, finding the towns...
My 32(D) gives me DERRY, but 8(D) W?R? is
still eluding me. No help from Google...

And one question, is there something significant
about APPLERY, the title of the puzzle?
Work, York - didn't the letters from 26 Down help?
Question Author
Thanks, NACW, I had isolated those letters and had YORK but
still had some nagging doubts. That's it now!
Matakari, when you said it was 'eluding you' and that Google was no help, it sounds as if you had no ideas at all! Still, if you had 'nagging doubts'....
Look up Appleby-in-Westmorland
