Once again Football tries to extract yet more dosh for the big few. I haven't seen anyone in the Football world on favour yet. Pundits, fans, sports journalists all seem to agree it would be a disaster. Should the teams and players be banned from the rest of football if they go ahead?

Call me an old cynic ("You're an old cynic, Dave"), but this reeks of the same brinkmanship that was used by the putative 'breakaway' Premier League Clubs in 1990 - who also were going to be a closed competition, no promotion/relegation. All they were really after was a much bigger share of the TV money and more seats on the governing body - which is exactly what...

If UEFA want to be seen to be serious, they should immediately throw City, Chelsea and Real Madrid out of this season's Champions League (not to mention Arsenal and United from the Europa).

yes mozz, that would certainly make them look serious.
It would show the clubs that they mean business. UEFA are far too lily livered to do rhat kind of thing though. They'll just throw money at the clubs until they abandon the Superleague idea (Which I suspect is the real aim of the 12 clubs anyway)

more likely the clubs concerned will throw money at the UEFA/FIFA officials until they accept it. That's how Football works. Look at Blatter, bent as a nine bob!
Well, one way or another, the rich are getting richer.
On the plus side, at least everybody will be a Leeds fan for tonight's game.
I’m quite impressed with Aleksandr Ceferin, head of UEFA.
He certainly doesn’t mince his words
I think UEFA probably ultimately had more resources than the clubs. Arguably it’s actually shortage of money that’s driving this. The sort of shortage that comes from criminal overspending.
UEFA in the other hand seen to be offering money right left and centre to associations eg well over 6 million quid per team to play in any all Ireland league. And that’s just Ireland

No ceferin fools gladly ...
President of Real Madrid has stated that the ESL is on standby. He has also said that the clubs who signed up signed a legally binding document and therefore cannot simply withdraw.I sense some high profile court cases in the offing.
