My wife and I can hardly believe how this once excellent series has deteriorated since Neil Dudgeon replaced John Nettles some years back. The plots, in our opinion, are ridiculous. Does anyone else agree?

the plots were always ridiculous, thats the fun.
Is there anyone left alive in mid summer , given all those murders?
I take it as light relief from series such as Line of Duty, though there may be more bodies in Midsomer Murders.

When I am out and about in this wonderful part of England I drive though some beautiful small villages and often consider them as ideal settings for an episode of MM, complete with manor houses, eccentric thatched cottages, decent hostelries and delightful churches. There are even a few duck ponds around.
I enjoy watching it - it isn't a serious crime drama, but it is excellent lighthearted viewing.

When John Nettles left I gave up on it for a while, but Neil Dudgeon and his dog have grown on me.

The ridiculous plots are part of its charm.
Yes, it went downhill with the departure of Brian True-May at the same time as John Nettles. It's still watchable but nowhere near as good.
