Sting sang some of the lines on this Dire Straits song but does anyone know why or how he got involved. Did he have anything to do with writing the song?

The reason why Sting sings some of the high notes in Money For Nothing is actually all about location and timing. When Mark Knopplier was recording that track he wanted to use the bass-line from a Police song (can't remember which one), and it so happened that someone point out that Sting was staying in the same hotel has Knopplier, and it all started from there.
Plus they are both Geordies, so maybe that had a bearing?
