During January of this year, Beef exports to the EU fell by 91.5%, Cheese by 85.1% and Pork by 86.9% - some exports such as breeding animals, seed potatoes and certified seeds stopped entirely – with a total loss of export value of around £100 million (source: Private Eye).

Who amongst us would be stupid enough to vote leave?

Hymie: Does this 2 quid wine you buy in France have, 'Réservé aux Anglais' on the label?
120 posts in, and what a whimpering response from the Brexiters.
It was inevitable we would lose some trade with the EU, but we were going to make that up with new deals with the rest of the world. But they haven’t happened. The first 3 months of us trading as a independent nation have not seen new markets opening up, and a surge in trade with the rest of the world.

The Government’s betrayal of the fishing industry is nothing short of a scandal, but Brexiters are keeping very quiet about that too.

I doubt my employer thinks that the considerable extra expense and work it has had to endure (and ongoing) as a result of Brexit are laughable, pathetic or just wrong.
If it’s just garlic, wine and cheese you miss, borrow a dinghy from those that cross the channel to our shores, and paddle the other way waving a French flag
If you wave a flag and paddle you'll just go in circles and make no progress.

An image is forming in my head of the good ship Leave with one bank of slaves straining every sinew while the other side wave the Union Jack and belt out Jerusalem, urging their companions to even greater efforts.
hymie: "If it were not for Covid, I would have made at least two trips to France to stock up on wine." - can i recommend a very tasty and reasonably priced Pinot Noir from Aldi? £4.95, they have cheaper stuff of course but I sense you are not one for the cheapest. A lot simpler than all that tedious self importation.
Can't wait for when Gulliver goes on holiday anywhere in the UK , that's when Lili Von Schtupp him and he has to join that mile long queue "Non UK Passport holders.
it seems Hymie's loyalty to anything is predicated on the availability of cheap plonk! Very Deep! PMSL!
"reckon each trip to France saves me around £500 against what I would pay for the merchandise in the UK (it is not only wine that I buy), after taking into account travel costs. So that’s around £1,000 a year Brexit has cost me – just considering my trips to France. " - why not move to France? Right next door to the plonkorium then you can just nip next door when you need a bottle.

while in the meantime, the SNP rowing boat is attempting to tow Scotland outside the UK 12 mile limit........
Doogie, the picture in my mind of Hymie rowing a dinghy and waving a flag , going around in an never ending circle , has mead me giggle out loud :0)))
They may be, mushroom, but most of us are content to remain joined at the hip to our uncomplaining neighbour.

Lang may your lum reek. X

When we joined I thought we would pay EU prices for such stuff here in the UK. It never happened - we still pay more! Wonder why that was.
dave: "When we joined I thought we would pay EU prices for such stuff here in the UK. It never happened - we still pay more! Wonder why that was. " - UK has more internal duty on booze that many of the EUSSR countries. Brexit hasn't changed that, it was always possible to go to a French hypermarket for a van load of plonk, for your own use of course. But now of course it has to be imported and of course with the EUSSR being as awkward as possible we reciprocate by slapping import duty on top, thus it's no saving, that's what Hymie is upset about. When the French and wider EUSSR wake up and realise that anything they can do we can do they'll start getting sensible and who knows we, as one of their best customers, can do a deal and Hymie can once again get his French wares at a sensible price.
