I love caramel chocolates, and recently bought some Magnum ice creams which were salted caramel flavour - yeuk! Now everything seems to be 'salted' caramel - why do they do this and when did it start becoming the in thing?

Barsel @ 14:11...I agree. That's why I mentioned processed foods. The stuff that comes in a box, ready meals, pre prepared food. But food cooked from scratch using fresh ingredients will benefit from a bit of added salt. The body needs some salt to function properly, and lack of salt can result in issues as serious as too much, including dehydration and...high blood pressure.
I cook using salt, but rarely add any after. Like Apc, I never have sugar in the house.

Best answer to Togo!

A life guard at the swimming pool told me that the reason I was getting cramp was because I needed some salt in my diet. I don't mind a little on chips but not much, preferring to soak them in vinegar. Because I have to cook at work for the people I look after I always put a pinch of salt when cooking veggies.
I love vinegar. Vinegar and salt together are lovely? I very rarely eat savoury snacks, but if anything tasting of salt and vinegar is put in front of me, I can't resist!

Ta Lankeela. Gotta have a laugh haven't you. Being serious I love dark chocolate ... the stuff that is almost bitter. Green & Blacks and similar. That tastes salty when you eat it sometimes.
Great BA, LOL.
We have some salted caramel Vodka. Now that IS nice!
