i think the problem is that if you are happy for the govt to do one thing that's unlawful, you have to have the same stance for things that you don't agree with
Repeal the statute and cancel all foreign aid.
Why should the government pay any attention to Lord Garnier?

Because he's worth it.
It's not so much the aid budget I object to it's what it's spent on. And we shouldn't be giving money to India and, yes, China. Millions for an Ethiopian girl band to celebrate female power.
And governments can't bind future governments. So, rather like the fixed term parliaments act, it can be overridden.
subtle douglas!
If the government wants to do it and stay within the law, change the law!

It's fixed at 0.7% of GDP currently, so if we get poorer it falls anyway.

A target is just something you aim for. It's not a commitment. Every day I aim to get a lot of stuff done, but I usually fail to meet that hope.

Broke your keyboard again?
If Foreign aid was going to poor countries for the betterment of the lives of the poorest then none of us would object. However the fact that we are being harangued everyday to send money for drinking water or sponsoring girls education proves that it never reaches where it’s meant to go.

I most certainly would. Every penny that we are doling out in "aid" has to be borrowed and that borrowing must be serviced. Who on earth borrows money to give away? The law should be amended so that we do not provide aid until we show a surplus.
Hell in a handcart springs to mind.
