I keep reading the figures for the number of people vaccinated in a country and what percentage of its population that is. For example:

Doses 28.2m % of population 38.7

Would someone please remind me of the formula for working out what the total population is - it's really annoying me!

take 60m

they are talking about the adult pop - and that can vary ( Algeria and Egypt it is 50% for rather obvious reasons)

The herd effect should deffo be detectable ( kink down in the curve)
actually it doesmt matter a foo what the denom is
the fact is that we are outstripping all euro zone countries

and by God dont they know it

the realtest is whether they have a third wave and we dont
Can you write what you mean by "Doses 28.2m % of population" in words as that reads 28.2 million percent which doesn't make sense. Once clear what you are asking the formula is easy to tell you.

PP - I'm looking for a maths answer/formula

Doses 28.2 million
% of population vaccinated 38.7
Total population is?
Divide doses by the percentage vaccinated and multiply by 100

(28.2/38.7)*100 = 72.8
total population is 65 million give or take.
28.2m = 37% of population
28.2m/37 = 1% of population
So 28.2/37 X 100 = 100% of population

Thanks, dave, thought it was that, but the above figures are for UK - and UK doesn't have a population of 72.8m !
It's 38.7 of the adult population - and doses includes second doses too.
Question Author
Ah, that makes sense. But the newspaper definitely says 38.7 is 'percentage of total population'.
erm didnt you muvva tell you not to believe everything you read in newspapers

the let out anyway is % pop which is adult
