Hello again,
My second attempt at a Spectator Crossword and I'm loving them! I've mostly completed it on my own, but need some help now please;
20A My answer is DITHEIST, but I can't justify it- am I correct and if so why?
14D Struggling to find anything to fit C_HOG_ (6) (the H assumes 20A is correct)
35A I originally had FINAY as this is a place in Ireland and it fitted the clue, but it now doesn't fit the down clues
27D _AS_AR (6) Thinking CASPAR or GASPAR but can't justify either and I don't think a P would fit in 35A
I thought Pabulum's "Depart Paddington' theme was very clever
Many thanks!

20A My answer is DITHEIST, but I can't justify it- am I correct and if so why? The clue is "Disciple named Toby"
14D Struggling to find anything to fit C_HOG_ (6) (the H assumes 20A is correct) The clue is "Senior soldier snarfs seafood"
35A I originally had FINAY as this is a place in Ireland and it fitted the clue, but it now doesn't fit the down clues. Clue is "Fine lady led astray in Ireland"
27D _AS_AR (6) Thinking CASPAR or GASPAR but can't justify either and I don't think a P would fit in 35A. Clue is "Old man burning to take a walk"
20a Ditheist
14d Cohogs
35a Idler
27d Pasear

These were my answers.
20A "Dit" as in called or named, plus "heist" ("toby" being an archaic term for a robbery).

14D Cohogs, alternative spelling for "quahogs", an edible clam. CO + hogs.

35A Idler I(dle an. of led)R

27 Pa + sear (a Spanish term "to take a stroll").

Welcome to the Speccie club. They are indeed addictive.

LancastrianOik thanks again, I'd never heard the term 'Toby' before. I can see now that my copy of Brewer's is doing to be well-thumbed in future!
