Can anyone check their on screen tv guide and tell me if Great Canal Journeys is showing at 9pm?
My tv says it is Grand Designs. My Radio Times tells me it should be Great Canal Journeys

Canal Boat Diaries was another series I enjoyed last year, on BBC4, one man living aboard a narrow board.
They are all very good, we've been on two canal holidays on a 65ft boat, that was fun, then just two of us on the Lancaster canal on a 28ft one. Just a bit pricey for us now but if you can do it....so relaxing.
Lancaster is good if you don't want to do locks!

Dagman, I've spent a lot of time on the canals but these days prefer cruising the Norfolk Broads.
According to my Freeview planner on More 4 Grand Designs is on at 7'15pm and Great Canal Journeys is on at 9pm.

This thread did prove very useful to me in any case, emmie. I hadn't realised there was a second series of Canal Boat Diaries and watched it last night on iPlayer :) Very nice it was, too - all four episodes.
It shows the reality of living on a narrow boat, we never saw Tim and Pru up to their elbows in muck clearing the propeller of duck weed
not a programme i watched regularly...

I nearly bought a boat once until a very wise man told me that boat owners only get two real days of true happiness - the day they buy it and the day they sell it.
Gave me a lot to think about.
my claim to fame is i nearly killed myself and wrecked a canalboat that belonged to a friend, at Camden Lock, i almost went over the dip, i had been left in charge of it, whilst my two pals, were on the opposite sides of the canal. they quickly jumped into the boat and took the tiller, i had quite a fright, that's what you get for drinking half the day away.....my pals were laughing afterwards...

Scary! Surprising number of deaths on the canal system when most canals are only 4' deep and are not tidal. What can go wrong?
don't know, but almost went over the weir, dip call it whatever, it would have wrecked the boat, and killed me besides as i would have ended up in Camden Lock. we had been drinking half the day away, and this was at night, we had stopped at a variety of hostelries along the route.. good fun till the last bit.

The canal side pubs are the biggest attraction
