My diabetes team have put me on Metformin once per day at evening meal to try and deal with my readings post dinner/through the night with the insulin that I take.

So far so good (it’s only been 3 days) but I have an excessive thirst. Is this normal, I couldn’t find anything in the leaflet. It’s not an issue really, just more of an irritation. I don’t enjoy the dry mouth and frequent trips to the loo.

I did ask for slow release but I didn’t get those. Is it worth while asking or will it not make a difference?

You have just got married and I wonder if your trips to the loo are more to do with "honeymoon cystitis" than the Metformin.
If you bloods are fine post evening meal, then accept this inconvenience which may resolve.

Thank you Sqad.

Oddly my sugars have settled relatively quickly. They were a little unsettled the morning after the first tablet, but I wasn’t feeling 100%.

But I’ll keep an eye on it - have clinic next week.
Are you experiencing dry mouth or thirst? They are not the same.

Barry...it’s both.

Usually when I’m this thirsty my sugars are high but alas no, it’s only started since beginning Metformin.

I speak to my team next week so I’ll mention it to them then.
My wife has a dry mouth because she has Sjögren’s syndrome and finds this helpful
