Went there yesterday, I was amazed at the empty shelves and freezers.
It was really strange. Remarked on it the checkout. Cashier told me they lost the electricity during the night. They had to throw out £40,000 of food. What a waste!

That's an awful shame Caran.

I did wonder if staff were offered the food before it was thrown away. It was only just defrosted, could be still edible, not for refreshing.
Christ that’s awful!!
The Stowmarket Tesco had a power failure only a week or two after they'd opened, when establishing good public relations with their new customers was obviously really important to the company.

The manager asked everyone to move to the exit (so that they couldn't put extra stuff into their trolleys) and then said "Sorry about the inconvenience. Whatever you've got in your trolleys, you can take free of charge".

The publicity probably worked well for them. Loads of people starting shopping in Tesco after that, hoping for another power cut!

OK, I admit it: I was one of them ;-)

;-)
I am surprised at that. It just takes one person to fall ill and then sue.
In Buenchico's example the food would still be fine if they left the shop immediately the power failed.
My local Co-Op in Kettering didn't waste food, Caran. I picked up a packet of frozen prawns from the freezer. It was warm and soggy. I called for an assistant and told her.
She said it was okay. She knew the freezer wasn't working properly so they just moved the warm prawns to the bottom of the freezer and kept on rotating them til they could get freezer fixed. :-(
That sounds crazy gness, aswell as dangerous and I would think against all health and safety guidelines.
Very dangerous, Tony. How many time did the food warm and was re-frozen?!
I did speak to the manager and phoned head office when I got home. Never bought frozen stuff there again though!
I'm reminded of a convenience store in Lowestoft that got prosecuted after local authority inspectors discovered that the owner saved money on his electricity bills by turning off all his fridges and freezers overnight!
Shocked! X
Oh good god, Chris!
Not cool.
our morrisons had a breakdown with there chillers units that supply all their freezers with refrigerant , it lasted a couple of days ALL the fridge's were emptied
the tall ones and chest ones ..one hell of a lot of food was cleared out,
