How can you be sure that a TV licence demand is genuine ?

First, check if your licence is due for renewal and second, if you're paying online don't use a link from the email if you're doubtful.

A genuine renewal notice has part of the postcode and the date due.

Have never had a demand so would assume its a scam or phishing attempt. Anything but a letter is almost certainly dodgy .

I don't get a reminder that its due, I get a "your licence has been renewed" email!

If your licence automatically renews then you must be on a direct debit.
You should have a paper version or pdf version of your licence. Check that to see if your licence renewal is due.
If you are going to pay online, go direct to the TV Licensing website rather than clicking on a link in an email.
