The reason I put a question on here was the vet said he the maltie did not need to be seen at that time, we have had to speak to him twice since as we were concerned that he had blood in his pooh, the vet however says it is very common and that it is colitis, it was the vet who ordered us to drag him out on the lead, his words, you have to force them to walk and to be fair since then he has perked up a bit, we are not long time dog owners, cats yes, dogs no so was seeking reassurance, thanks for all your advice

Hi clown. glad to hear your boy has cheered up! Would like to say though, my Dane has suffered with colitis on and off for years and I have never seen blood...but I suppose it is possible as it is a bowel complaint. As for the vet suggesting you drag him on the lead.....???????? WHY? Of course exercise is essential, but surly encouraging your boy to run up and down the garden would be just as effective... btw I have the reverse situation to you....long time dog owner....just got a kitten....now there's an eye opener.....lol

thanks and good luck with the kitten
Hi, has your little Maltie seen a vet yet then? Has he seen a vet for his puppy check? If not then I'd make and appointment with another (better) vet as blood in stools, although common, should be assessed, especially in a puppy. What sort of food is Maltie on as I can help with that before you go to vet (am vet nurse of 26 years and I like helping people with their pets, vets don't always have time or the interest I have to say). Dragging a puppy around on his lead is not the advice of a caring vet!
