I bought a few items the other night and for the first time thought - think it was cayjenne prawns (not sure) but first time I though it was (cayjenne) the hottest taste of them all.

Hotter than

Curry
Hot curry
Cumin
Chilli

I'll be getting some - am I better buying the powder cayjenne (I'm spelling it wrong) or what other form can I get it - so that it will "keep" in the cupboard.

You can buy cayenne pepper just like ordinary pepper.

it's possible you are mixing up Cajun and Cayenne
Cajun is deep south flavours, Cayenne is chilli/pepper flavour

If you don't mean Cayenne, might you mean Cajun spices?

BTW you can get both Cajun and Cayenne powder from supermarkets

You can as said above buy Cajun spice mix ready done or make your own, similar to my link.
