is it a genuine copy or did you get a "bargain"?

I hope I'm replying I'm not sure how to use this, Yes it is a genuine copy. I got it off the official site the same one I got for myself and works great for me.
Is your sister logged into a Microsoft account? According to the Minecraft site, you now need one to be able to play the game:
https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/store/minecraft-java-edition/
and
https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360052640412-Need-help-with-your-new-Microsoft-account-for-Minecraft-Java-Edition-

Also, did you purchase the game through your sister's Microsoft account or your own? This might be relevant:

Does the game work now?
The thread’s old, but I want to ask the OP how they solved the problem. Was it about the Microsoft account? Or because the game was not purchased from a reliable source? I am interested because I have the same problems now, and I cannot find an appropriate way to resolve the problem. When I was still playing Minecraft, I used the java version and played on these minecraft servers https://servers-minecraft.net five years ago. But then I gave the game up. Now I would like to come back, but the game I purchased only lets me play the demo version. I bought it from an official Windows store and didn’t think there could be any problems with that.
You've come up with some good updates. Have you thought about sending them as an official letter to the developers? It seems to me that they will not mind considering them as real projects. However, I do not know how technically it will be possible to implement some points.
You may need to log in to your account (login = mail). Did it work? Then put the game on, log in to the launcher (also, login = mail) and play. Look for the problem in the previous step and at what stage it didn't work out. You can also try to ask https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/all/3-best-minecraft-servers-for-prison/af8e522b-aa44-4f7b-aad9-25911fc63516 and get a more detailed answer to your question. I found many useful things about playing Minecraft for my daughter, but we didn't have problems like yours. Maybe you bought a pirated version of Java?
