Do we really need scientists to tell us that many people are doing less exercise and watching more TV than in the first lockdown? Have they not noticed that it's colder, wetter and darker now and therefore neither the time nor the season for outdoor activity?

Or even "Stating the obvious?" No idea what happened here!
and the gyms and swimming pools are closed ... again. Added to that we are all really fed up with being stuck indoors without seeing those we normally spend time with so cake seems to be an excellent way to pass the time whilst watching dreadful tv...
I was out on one of my bikes in the cold & rain yesterday, so there!

That sounds like masochism!
Yes it is irritating when 'experts' come on stating the obvious

The important thing in any outdoor activity, particularly in the wintertime, is simply to wear the right kit.

If you don't cut the cake, then technically you've only had one piece.....
Agree 100%. And don’t forget they get paid for this as well.
It is research rather than medical science.
Confirming things we already know isn’t entirely pointless. They already know that winter is a factor, so they are looking for other factors as well. On the basis of the results, they can plan to encourage healthy living when the weather gets better and lockdown ends.

They don’t want people to survive Covid only to die of being a slob.
Someone needs to go on Mastermind.
Subject: The Bleedin Obvious.
I’ve also been out in all weathers like khandro tho not on a bike
Sometimes it doesn’t hurt tho to have the obvious stated
On more than one occasion, what we might have thought was "obvious" or common sense turns out to have been wrong. So, even if not, it always makes sense to double-check to be sure.
Fixed the title for you.

Thank you Ed!
The Faculty of the Bleedin' Obvious does seem to have plenty of funding.
A recent study found that cats recognise their names, but often choose not to respond - well, who knew!
I have not been out for a while, will start doing laps of local park to get is bit fitter.
eating cake as a suggestion

why dont I eat cake? - - - good idea

exercise post covid ( any fit fella can flog himself around the parks) should be gentle. Crezzy leddy yesterday on tee-vee said she had gone for a long run (!) post infection and had taken about 3 weeks to recover

and SHE was a doctor for chrissakes

should be gentle - which is more likely - I died from fat or died from covid?
true, PP, Peter O'Toole used to say the only exercise he took was walking behind the coffins of friends who took exercise. He made it to 81 and coached local kids' cricket.
PP used to be out twice a day with dog (sadly deceased) now community garden closed, so now down to twice a day around park.
