Probably some of you will not agree with me having our Bichon spayed before coming on heat for the first time, but we were advised to do so by our vet and so she had her op. last Wednesday. So far so good, but she is behaving strangely, as we we told to expect. But we are a bit worried as, although she is eating ( not as much as normal though) and drinking, she has only done one huge pee yesterday morning, and no pooh. I phoned the vet and he said she will when she wants to, but it seems such a long time. Usually she pees about 6 times a day ( on her puppypads). Does anyone have anyone have any experience ?

no poop for over a week?
I've never heard of a dog being spayed before at least one season. I hope you trust your vet, because I wouldn't. Sorry, I know it's not what you wanted to hear. Hope she's going to be ok.
sorry just realised "last Wednesday" is a bit ambiguous. Maybe you mean 2 days ago rather than over a week?
It is very common to spay a female dog before she’s had a season.
Dogs, like humans, can react very differently to a general anaesthetic. Constipation is not unusual. Would be more concerned re her lack of pee as GA can upset the kidneys.
I’d be inclined to go back to vet just to be sure.

Yes bednobs, the day before yesterday. We have an appointment tomorrow morning with the Vet for a checkup. I'll call him this afternoon if she still hasn't peed.
Right, I too had assumed it was over a week!
Unless she goes very downhill I would just wait for the vet check up tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. I think I will give the vet a call this p.m. if she doesn't do anything, just to set our minds at rest. I'll keep you updated ! Poor little thing, how females suffer ! Even our pooches.
Our previous dog, a female, was spayed before her first season, on the vets advice.
I hope your dog recovers and does her pees and poos soon, Sam.

Thanks Vagus. Can you remember an issue with her pees and poos ?
I wouldn't worry about her pees and poos just yet as long as she seems well in herself.
Sam - we had our dog spayed before her first season, and another one after, they both had the same issues as you describe for a few days.

Please dont think its anything to do with the spay before season thing, i think she will be fine, but you're right, us poor girls!
