I think it is completely out of order for 'older' members of the AB to castigate a new member for frequent posts, advising her to 'get an idea of how the site works'.

How the site works is - it's a democracy, anyone can post anything they want, about anything they want, as often as they want, within Site Rules.

Anyone who is not interested is free to ignore any threads - they do not have carte blanche to dictate how anyone posts at any time, and that goes double for new AB'ers who could easily be put of by such arrogant and uncalled for responses.

I really hope the latest new member is not put off by the utterly unwarranted hostility she has received, and she will understand that such behaviour does not reflect to attitudes or responses of the majority of people on here.

Those involved are keen to point out the youth of the new member - in which case they should be old enough to have learned some tolerance and some manners, and maturity to exercise both on a site like this, which is free for everyone, and not their personal kingdon.

You were 12 yesterday.

When in Rome...
Bro I'm not twenty either......
What do you mean?
you were 12 yesterday
No I was 20 yesterday. I’m not getting younger
Polly is thinking of a different user. The memory can get a little fuzzy once you get old. Like over 30. ;-)
Many thanks for such a kind response andy-hughes. I am a new member and log in frequently but apprehensive about posting when reading some of the remarks, however do find most of the conversations really interesting.
no names named
no fingers pointed
what IS going on ?
There have been some new posters these last couple of days and some question as to wether they are one and the same person given the topics in the postings
I have to say that I agree with AH's OP. Why has his request for politeness to younger and newer posters stirred up such a hornets' nest?

Really?

I honestly never consider that there are secret cabals, or multiple posters, or who might be returning from a ban under another name, or any of that stuff.

Maybe I'm missing out - but honestly, I don't think so.

Atheist - Thank you for your support.

The hostility comes from some people who simply have personal animosity which they must air at any given opportunity.

The fact that some of them are found out behaving badly simply encourages them more, sadly.
What about the hostility of your new protege, Andy? The one you championed but Now thinks you’re obnoxious?

I think I was right when I submitted my ‘report’ wasn’t I ?
// Try posting an opinion in the science section that opposes the scientific model. Chances are it’ll be zapped by the ‘quality controller’. //

When was the last time you actually tried to post anything in the Science section? A while, I think, since you're on self-imposed exile, but it's unwise to make assumptions that you know what will happen to anything you post in that section.
A thread about manners ... by one of the most disgustingly ill-mannered members of this site.

What an insufferable hypocrite.
Lady CG, a most excellent observation.

Looks like you’re fan club is becoming more and more exclusive, Andy.
