Looking for some help with removing an enclosed glass lampshade with a black metal rim at the top, that fits flush to the ceiling, as I need to change the bulb. Probably quite old fashioned.

Try turning it, it's probably screwed in place.

Try turning it, it's probably screwed in place.
It could be held by spring clips - in which case you just (carefully) pull it.

Thanks both. I will give it a try.
Some have 3 screws holding the lampshade in place on a rim of the glass. Is it a globe? You need to get close and take a look.
I think John has the solution. There will be 3 thumbscrews around the rim which you just loosen and the globe will come off downward. Just be careful when you replace it; there is no need to over-tighten the screws and you might break the globe if you do.

Actually, Gettingonabit was right. I should’ve posted that I had got the job done. Sorry.
