A friend of ours has got Rentokil in to rid her of a few little mousies at a cost of £500 for three visits,I did a Google and found out that local chappies provide the same service for about a third of that price. Has anyone used them, and are they worth the extra money?

as your friend a local council, as they might help. Mine did as i was inundated with them
if not go with the cheaper ones, 500 quid is a lot of money for just three visits.
Large national companies often cost a lot more than local ones...car hire, replacement windows, insulation etc. and usually you get a better service from local ones.
I had a mouse infection in my shed, when I was storing chicken food in there. I used some humane traps which caught a few which were released a good distance away, but eventually ended up using some poison on the remaining ones. All purchased from eBay.

Hi Emmie, our council pest control used to be free but now charge £89 for two visits so it works out about the same as local firms, we had mice in the shed where I brew my beer as they like the associated heat,I put down mice traps but never again, removing their dead, bloody and broken bodies from the traps was too much for me (what a wimp eh?), I now use humane traps when required and drive them somewhere to release them where they can live a happy life.

Sorry TonyV, missed your post.
Poor things would starve if they ever wandered into my house.
Spicerack they will find plenty to nibble on including the insulation on your electric cables!!
That's ok Ludwig, I'm sure a second opinion is always appreciated.
ludwig l've used spring traps in the past, never again.
Worse than traps are the glue mats. They should be banned. It's horrible to think of the agony the rodents go through when they get stuck on them,
My trusty little Jack Russell takes care of any 'unwanted' furry visitors in my house.
