There were no kind nuns in those homes, JJ. No kind person could have worked there and turned a blind eye to the cruelty. Every nun who had anything at all to do with the mothers and babies is guilty even if it was just to look the other way because she was too weak to speak out. Personally I doubt there were many of those. Nuns always seem to enjoy being cruel.

Gness I know you will always denounce the Catholic church and you are certainly entitled to that opinion.

Just as lately as 35 years ago my friend who was expecting a baby and worked as a clerical worker in my old convent school was approached by the head nun and who said to her - when you have this baby I can have it adopted for you. Course my friend told her to go to hell - not in so many words tho probably. But my friend was sent to another academical institution to work so that nobody could see her pregnant in school.

Now she (the nun was pretty wicked) cos I got very hard slaps with a big thick leather strap for being 5 minutes late.

In that film about the laundry girls, seeing a Priest ejaculate all over the face of a young girl who'd by then had her baby taken from her , and had her head shaved for being 'naughty' , she had to go in to see the Priest and ask forgiveness , forgiveness alright, it turned my stomach!
There is another harrowing movie re the Christian Brothers who were just as bad.

"Song for a Raggy Boy".
Bobbisox, I can only guess at why the nun came to see me - when I told my friend of her visit she seemed to become somewhat cross but I tried to persuade her that it was very likely with the best of motives and not to protest to the nuns. At the time I took it the church/convent wondered why my friend kept up such a friendship (she obviously told them she knew me, probably that she had come to see me and that I would possibly visit her in hospital) and thought that it was possibly romantic (which it had been) and that perhaps we might get together and bring up the child. In their eyes, on the face of it it was almost certainly not impossible that I was the father. I still feel they were simply "covering all the bases" and that there was nothing sinister about it. My friend had made up her mind - I was not witness to the handover. Some weeks/months later I wrote to tell her I was amazed at her decision, she told me off for criticising her, I apologised.
