Does anyone know if UK hotels routinely accept and store luggage sent by courier in advance of guest arrivals?

Many (most?) hotels won't even let you leave your luggage there for a couple of hours if you happen to arrive a bit before their published check-in times. (e.g. if you arrive by train at midday, hoping to leave your luggage at the hotel until you can check in at 2pm, you'll often be refused and have to drag your luggage around with you while you seek out some lunch).

So I think that it's extremely unlikely that many hotels will be prepared to store luggage sent by courier. Further, with memories of the Grand Hotel in Brighton in their minds, many hoteliers might consider it a security risk to accept unaccompanied luggage. (The only left luggage facilities at railway stations these days are at those stations equipped with X-ray facilities to scan all bags. Hoteliers clearly won't have such facilities, so they might be reluctant to accept unaccompanied bags).

That is a real shame, Buenchico, was hoping to fly to Edinburgh without luggage
I have always found Premier Inns to be very accommodating with luggage both before and after check in and check out times. Don't know about courier delivery as they might want to see the customer

Thanks, cal
I'm pretty sure that hotels will not do this mainly due to the security risks. I'm not sure I'd want to stay in one that did!

I've just spoken to Premier Inn, Glasgow, and they will accept luggage the day of my arrival or the day before.
Really, if I was determined to blow up a hotel I'd check in, drop my luggage off (including bomb) in the room and go out.
Much easier to use a courier tho.
Question Author
Wouldn't a bomb be more likely to explode when the courier throws it in the van, though?
I don't know. There are different types I believe. I find it quite concerning that they do this.

Is it a business trip?
Question Author
No, I'm forward planning for a family wedding and will hopefully be travelling with two wheelchair users so to be able to travel luggage free will be a game changer.

I've never had a problem leaving luggage before and after check out at hotels in Europe though I've never sent luggage by courier before. There is a selection of firms that provide this service, good rates, too
barry, thanks for the info. Is this a trip in the near future? If so are you aware of the Scotland / England restrictions?

Next May, Zacs - 2022, all being well. Fingers crossed. It is a great occasion for us as a family to look forward to, a much needed boost :)
Aaah, OK.
Glad PI will do that. I always find them very accommodating. Once they put the grandkids to work as I had to pop out for 10 mins. !! Always find them very helpful, even the airport ones
Question Author
Yes, thanks for the heads up, Cal. I have used them before and had no complaints
