On 17th July last year our cat Bracken went out and didn't come home. He often went walkabout for days at a time so we didn't think it was anything out of the ordinary. We asked about on social media but got nothing. As the days and weeks went by we did think the worst. Then yesterday I got a message on Facebook with a photo asking 'could this be your cat?' It was! He had been living rough THREE streets away! A lady had been feeding him as the weather had turned and she had made him a shelter because she couldn't take him in as she had cats of her own. My daughter went to pick him up and he's now home safe and sound! I can't explain why he didn't come home, only that he must have gone somewhere he hadn't been before and got disoriented. Anyway I'm over the moon he's back!

Lovely story. 25 years ago my wife came to live with me with her 2 cats. Her home she left was about 8 miles away. We kept the cats in for a couple of weeks. One went out and went missing for 5 days, he returned a bit bedraggled and hungry. No idea where he went, perhaps trying to get home, how he found his way back we will never know.
Kathy if this had been a dog you would have been mugged with his excitement at being home. I'm interested to know your cat showed any pleasure at being home and seeing you again?
Wonderful news, you must be over the moon

Ladybirder, he was very vocal when my daughter brought him in, as if he was trying to tell us where he had been and what he had been up to! He had to go all around the house sniffing everything as if to reacclimatise. He did give me 'kisses' (a lick on the nose!) He's had loads of cuddles and hasn't really left my side on the sofa.
You're lucky Kathyan, I had a little cat go missing one night over 14 years ago. I never saw her again. I think of her often and wonder what happened to her.
When I was a child we had a little cat called Sammy. He was only young but he went out one day and never came home.
Kathy that's so lovely, obviously delighted to be back where he belongs and with you. x

Margie and LCG, that must be heartbreaking, worse than knowing what befell them as you never get closure. x
So good to read this. Lovely news.

Yes I really am lucky to get him back, thanks to social media and the lady who looked after him so well. My husband took her some flowers this afternoon and she was overwhelmed! She said she was happy with the fact that he was home and didn't need anything else, but I just had to give her something!
