Baffled. Is It A Man Thing?

OK, tonight I made kedgeree. Same recipe as forever (and he said it was good) but as we have become older we eat less, so instead of 2 hard-boiled eggs cut into halves, I boiled one tonight and cut it into quarters. For some months now I have noticed that he only eats half of a boiled egg, as do I. So I was chucking away a whole egg, very wasteful. At the end of the meal I noticed that there was a quarter left over (I only ate a quarter, which is all I needed) so he still had 1/2 a hard-boiled egg and there was more if he wanted it. I know the maths is weird - but can someone tell me what is the difference? - but he complained. I still had a quarter of an egg to throw away. If he wanted more it was there. He said it wasn't the same as a half of a hard-boiled egg and that I was cooking for myself. Completely baffled. Does it taste different or is he being lockdown awkward?

//It was that he seemed to think that an egg cut into quarters was different to a halved egg, for some reason.//

I know he's 87 but you need to be clear that if you are doing all the skivvying then he'll have to put up with the way you cut up his egg for him. If the intransigence persists, show him where the pot (or egg-boiler) is.
Why not use smaller eggs so you don't have to waste any?
I don't understand the question and I don't understand your concern, like my advice to Covid questioners...........just do what you are told.
