Our friends daughter is 17 past October , he's never smoked and is totally against it however she's been sly smoking and he found out, not pleased at all...
But... she's now in hospital having tests for either gallstones or appendix and the staff have allowed her to go outside for her to have her fix, he's furious but because of her age is powerless to say anything

Sorry but you mentioned it, hence I thought it ok to discuss

Carry on....
It is illegal to buy cigarettes for anyone under 18 but it is not illegal to give them cigarettes. Police can confiscate cigarettes from under 16s.
The only thing that shocks me is that a 17 year-old having a crafty fag should arouse such consternation.
Question Author
Just from her Dad and the fact she was in hospital Jack :0(
If you are from the NE, for 'fag' read 'tab'.
It breaks my heart seeing young people smoking.
I'm paying the price for a lifetime of stupidity.
Maybe she's heard that the smoke kills coronaviruses and is self-medicating.

Let the lassie live her life.
Question Author
It's the hospital issue Doogie , not the fact she smokes, I don't particularly care :0)
Maybe someone should confront the hospital in regards to their policy.
I asked earlier if she was smoking or vaping...which is apparently allowed.
my friend's 18 year old started vaping ... which surprised me a lot! WHy start with vaping i wonder?
Question Author
Is it?
I was under the impression there was no smoking in or around the hospital , any hospital, well there you go :0(
Vaping, by definition of s.1 the Smoking Act is not smoking as it is not a lit substance.
Smoking is certainly banned within the grounds of my local hospitals and it is enforced. The smoking shelters have been removed or turned in to cycle parking bays for staff.
The hospital staff cannot stop patients leaving the wards and congregating on the public highway to smoke. One of the smaller hospitals is in the middle of quite extensive grounds, mainly car parking now, and some smokers are prepared to have quite a walk for a fag.
