When i was about 10 or 11, my parents, though both working, were just about making ends meet. As such, they met the criteria for me and my brother to go on holiday to St Annes for a fortnight. We were looked after by 'nurses' and one of them, Nurse Anne, had courted Gerry Marsden. He was performing down the road in Blackpool and we were taken to see the afternoon matinee performance, after which we got to meet the band. Can't say i remember too much about it, but it was a very nice gesture by Gerry and his Pacemakers. RIP.
I visited Liverpool a few years ago and was surprised (and pleasantly surprised) that they still play this on the Mersey Ferry during the crossing.

R I P Gerry on your final crossing
Sound of my youth. RIP

Ironic fact - he did have a pacemaker.
