While cracking eggs to make my post-Xmas omelette today, one had a fragile shell and I got some egg white on my hand.

This reminded me of one of mother's cautionary tales from my (Forties) youth - egg white on hands causes warts.

An old wives tale of course, but was it one in your family?

No
my mother put potato peel on a burn, can't remember why or whether it worked
Yes. I always thoroughly wash my hands after getting egg whites on them. ( just in case)
My mother used to scrape the residue of the whites from the shells and put it on her face as a face mask.
It does tighten the skin.
That's one for the family album(en).
