Has anyone heard of this? I need to visit France next year and my EHIC expires in May. I have heard of the UK Global..... but can't find it online.

Squad, my diagnosis regarding a certain individual would be rectocranial inversion
The EHIC you have will still be valid 'till expiry date shown on it, as per Deal reached with EU; in the meantime the UK will start to issue 'new' GHIC and will inform EU of these as requested on the Agreement with EU :-)
I hope sqad isn't going to mind me saying this as he didn't respond to TTT but I'm pretty sure I know the reason for their return to UK and it had absolutely nothing to do with wanting to be back with the NHS.
From the BBC

'What will happen from 2021?

The deal on the future relationship between the EU and the UK was announced on 24 December. It says that all EHIC cards issued before the end of 2020 will be valid until their expiry date.

After that, the UK will issue a new card. The UK government says the new card will be called the UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC), but there are no further details yet on how to obtain it.

Like EHIC, the new card will cover chronic or existing illnesses and routine maternity care as well as emergencies.

The Brexit agreement says any specialised treatment, such as dialysis or cancer treatment, "must be subject to a prior agreement between the insured person and the unit providing the treatment" to ensure the treatment is available.

The government's advice , however, still says you should buy travel insurance with healthcare cover before you go on holiday.'

Thanks, TCL; I've already managed to find out the same info. Pity the goovt didn't have this scheme a bit more advanced prior to a week before final Brexit.
the beeb mentioned this ( global health) this am
but there are no details

I wd have thought it was obvious in its absence that you would need French health insurance.

PP, did you notice my homage to you in my 'goovt' above?
I'm not confident I'd be able to afford health insurance for a few months in France at my age and in my condition.
