Thoroughly enjoyed the music, dancing and photography today, but the icing on the cake was the fact that, as the announcer commented, the Radetzky March was played as the composer intended, without an audience clapping away during its performance. Well done Riccardo Muti and all the performers.

Haven't seen it for years but I always liked the Vienna Boys' Choir singing The Happy Wanderer.
It was a wonderful concert and quite emotional to have the orchestra play for us all despite everything. We enjoyed it enormously.
It was brilliant!

Do you not mean 2021?
Great martial type music. The conductor appears to be quite a character:) I often wondered if an orchestra really need a conductor, I mean how many of the musicians pay much attention to them?
Throughout the year I listen to the march being played as intended, but I always enjoy the audience participation in the New Year concert.
Agree with Ellimay - Brilliant!

Yes of course jackdaw33. I was thinking about it when I went to bed last night and said to myself, "What a silly ??????"

Yes sanmac, if the orchestra members are very familiar with a piece the conductor will pay them the compliment of letting them all get on with it. A march tempo is quite straightforward with not too much deep emotion and nuance involved. My niece is a cellist and agrees that for longer pieces, like an opera or symphony, the conductor is essential. I did smile though once while she described a time when she was, "Sawing her way through Siegfried."
The dancing and choreography was sublime.
there was a new years concert 1 Jan 2020 as well actually

that time they were dancing around the environs of Vienna.
Very popular as gemutlich entertainment
