Went to coop pharmacy again today to get meds. Told sorry pharmacist is not on the premises as his mother has had a stroke and he has had to go to Birmingham.
We are. Not allowed to issue prescriptions when he is not here. We both ran out of pills last Friday. Our fault we should have ordered them sooner.

Lol.

Thanks Chris.
Used to court a gal ( back in the 70's ) that used to work in a Boots chemist. Sometimes I used to pick her up from work at closing time and on a few occasions I was five or ten minutes early so would be waiting in the shop. And on several occasions I can remember people buying of the shelf stuff and the girls behind the counter having to call the pharmacist ( I can still remember his name 'Mr Grainger' ) and most times he didn't even look up just called back Okay.
If a pharmacy inspector was in the shop and saw a medication marked P sold without the pharmacist being informed he/she would ask to speak to the pharmacist and if they couldn't say what had just been sold they would face a hearing at their professional standards body, possibly affecting their license. and the staff member could also end up in court and fined.
So what's the reason in my post ?
As just stated Baz, even if bagged up, a Pharmacist must be on the premises for it to be sold or passed to the customer.
a hint for over 60's what I never would that anyone should do ..... order "p" stuff online and lie about your age. There are many online pharmacies, they do an online assessment via a short form....
If I have required anything containing Clotrimazole since I turned 60, I have asked my Daughter to pick some up.

Thankfully it has been a rare occasion.
What does 'marked P ' means ?
'Prescription' not OTC
My sis had a stomach upset and was told that she needed to see a GP as she was over 60 and the pharmacist wouldn't sell her loperamide. If she had been a little old frail person on a shedload of meds and with various co-morbidities then I could have understood it but she isn't and she doesn't.

Even if the pharmacist is on the premises - eg on his/her break in another area on the premises , they won't hand over a bagged up prescription , in the boots chemist I use
I am surprised at that. I have had no trouble buying it and I am 71. It is available off the shelf at supermarkets under the brand name Immodium.
Perhaps I should have said 'In the Pharmacy', it really would be best to ask them if this happens a lot.
