Connecting a laptop to a tv (to use as a monitor) via s-video...

I have a laptop with an 8 pin s-video out connection.

I also have a television with a 4 pin s-video in connection.

I tried to connect them (to use the TV as a monitor) but had no luck.

This is what I tried:

1.Plugged in the laptop and the tv via the 4 pin (both ends) s-video cord.
2.Booted up the computer.
3.Changed the AV on the TV to the s-video channel.
4.Pressed the function key and F4 (the one with the little monitor icon on the key).
5.The tv screen flickers each time I press Function/F4 but nothin else happens.

If it did work I was then going to get a headphone jack to RCA cord connection for the sound.

Am I doing something wrong? Does it have something to do with the fact that the laptop connection is an 8 pin set up as opposed to the 4 pin set up of both the cord and the TV?

Any help would be appreciated.

I have to go through all the AV and EXT channels on the tv to get the picture up. It seems to change every time I do it.

It probably doesn't - but that's the only way I can get it to work.
try it again and hold Fn key and press CRT/LCD and have alook.

When you say CRT/LCD do you mean the ctrl key and the F4 key which has the monitor icon on it?

Thanks.
Depending on your Laptop, and Video Card Driver you can do this from Software rather than the Fn + F4 Keys...

My Packard Bell has an Intel 845G Adaptor and I use the Intel Graphics Extreme 2 software to control resolution etc..

Once I plug my Tv into my laptop I can see its found it and allows me to select Clone / Dual Desktop as needed.

I also found (with my old TV) that using the 4-Pin S Video lead on my TV only produced a Black and White signal.. and it was much better to use the Phono Lead connector (or get a SCART adaptor version).

Hope you solve it...

I am displaying my ignorance all over the place here but when you say Phono Lead what exactly is that and which connection would it fit into on both the laptop and the tv.

Thanks for your time.
