In my drop ceilings, I have lightbulbs (R80 screw in).

I can no longer do ladders, so the last time one blew I stuck some duck tape upside down on a reaching stick, and managed to turn it enough to remove and replace it.

Are the commercially available lightbulb changing tools any use?

What I asked was

Are the commercially available lightbulb changing tools

ANY USE?

Rather than did they exist.
No, but you can read what others think of it.

Should be quite easy to fashion your own lightbulb remover.

I know you’re being helpful, but I did write

the last time ..... I stuck some duck tape upside down on a reaching stick...

which is what I did (successfully) 3 minutes ago.

So job done.
Fashion something better then.

Why, so I can change the light bulb better? Odd.
How did you make sure the duct tape was not stuck to the bulb when you removed your gadget, allen?
Question Author
You carry on twisting.

a) you use a twisting motion to screw in the light bulb, and the duct tape sort of scrunches up on the bulb's surface.

b) then carry on twisting, even though the bulb is now solid, and the tape carries on screwing itself into a smaller and smaller lump, which you can then use the reacher pole to gently twist off.

Never had any problems that end, Barry. The only time the system failed was when the bulb came away from its mount, so I was left with bulb, plus brass mount still inside the cavity.

Very inventive :)
Ah but could you make one for bayonet fittings? bet they are harder.
They are readily available and work well on a bayonet or screw type bulb that is fitted into a ceiling rose, pretty useless if your light fitting is suspended, you have nothing to push against .. I used to look after a number of large sheltered schemes. I did have a bulb changer, but I am afraid it didn't suit all the bulbs that were fitted .. so more often than not, it was out with the long ladder.
Most bulbs have a protective cover in a commercial environment, very few situations where you have a naked bulb suspended.

Prudie.

No argument!

As I’ve got increasingly infirm, I’ve made sure most lights we buy are LED (bulb-free).
