A really interesting watch. Great to see the faces behind the work being done to create a vaccine even though none of them want to be in the limelight.

The development of the vaccine was fascinating and answered the questions that so many of us have been asking.

Yes - a reflective, unsensationalist and clear programme - everyone should swallow their prejudices (whether about the BBC, Vaccines or Mind Control) and watch it.

It answered many questions and was ultimately reassuring - without any gung-ho patriotism either.

As I said elsewhere, I wonder what the dedicated (and knackered) scientists, who have worked their nuts off to provide a life-saving vaccine, think about those whose actions are having precisely the opposite effect?

I have seen so many self-entitled people endlessly 'pushing the limits' of every restriction so far this year - and planning to do the same again at Christmas.

Multiply each of their actions by far too many like-minded, "I'm quite safe" self-justifiers and I worry ... a lot.
I agree - I've always thought Fergus Walsh is a very good reporter, and was glad when the BBC 'promoted' him recently to be Medical Editor. Thought it was a bit rum a while back when Hugh Pym went from being Chief Economic Correspondent to Health Editor, when FW had been doing sterling work for a long time. I'd have been miffed were I him! (Subjunctive there specially in case PP reads this)

Agree about Fergus Walsh, brainiac. Perfect for this too and excellent with Sir Mene Pangalos at the end by just sitting.

Yes, these shallow "hedonism before health" people are a great worry to the more stoic and sensible of us. I very much doubt if any were watching this programme (I missed it myself unfortunately, I'll try to find it on iPlayer).
Repeated Sat 19/12 on BBC at 02.15 hrs
Apologies - its on BBC2

Do watch it, Canary. It really is worth watching.

Thanks, BD. I'll pass that on. I messaged a friend tonight when I saw it as we both know Prof. Sarah Gilbert but got no reply. I know she'll have missed it so I'll pass that on.
Thanks BD, I've also found it on iPlayer, available for 11 months.

Is that about all the vaccines in immediate offing or just the British one - I have not seen the programme ?
Question Author
All mentioned in passing, Karl but this was about the development of the Oxford vaccine.
Just watched it on iplayer. I thought it an excellent programme, informative, measured and clear. Bring it on, my sleeve is already rolled up :-)
Hopefully it’ll become essential viewing for anti-vaxers.
Question Author
Welcome to AB, Stickybottle. We'd have to tie the anti-vaxers down to make them watch it and then listen to all their conspiracy theories when they had.... :-)

It did make things very clear, Rosetta. x
Thanks for that gness, I'll watch it on catch up later. GP has confirmed I can't have this vaccine because I had anaphylaxis in 2007 so I'm sure I will find this programme of interest. x
Question Author
You will find it interesting, Barsel. Unfortunately I can't have the first vaccine either but we won't have to wait long I hope.
