The final 'R' is from the second 'R' in 8d: Rolls for large property owners, energetic types(8) T?R??E?S which I assume is TERRIERS which I can't parse.

I'm all set to kick myself for the 'Doh!' moment :-)

Many thanks dannyk. Not quite a 'Doh' moment as that meaning of 'banner' is new to me.

And the parsing for 'terriers' anyone?

Is there a word 'telier', as in hotelier? If so RR(Rolls Royce) would replace L (large).

No, it's just a double definition. Terrier, a register for landed estates, is in Chambers.
