glad you said that Danny, not me
I think the public is well aware of the massive amount spent due to government strategy on the virus. Not to mention the cost of a trade deal or no trade deal with an awkward EU determined to cause extra unnecessary financial stress. Putting up taxes a bit will be expected nationwide. The thing is to not try too much too soon, nor apply them unfairly on certain groups.
OG, yes i can see that
I think that most sensible people realise that the massive amount spent on covid will have to be recouped from somewhere.
sensible yes, some though won't see it that way,

Think JRM is worried about his tax bill increasing.
If you're a British tax payer then we will all be paying more, it has to come from somewhere and other countries will face the same dilemma
we will have to cross that bridge when we come to it, paying more in tax that is, JRM may well be the same
gulliver: "They are going to loose it anyway " - to who? Labour haven't won since 1974!
Poor old gully, siting in his mums attic in his Beret and Che Guevara T shirt, posters of Karl Marx and Agent Cob adorn the walls. Picture of Boris on the dart board, two fingers typing, praying that one day communism will sweep to power!
TTT, not worth the effort on the insults front.
Direct taxation is only a fraction of what is collected anyway. It's only there for political reasons. Richi can just pile it on other stuff if he has too.
Actually I think Rishi will need to spend more to get us out, the alternative (proper austerity) would not be acceptable and I believe would damage the economy.

Rishi needs money to be moving round, taxing does the opposite and tends to be repressive. I truly believe the only way out of this one is to spend on sound investments. I hope to see spending (not rubbish like HS2) in the North to generate jobs and wealth, get the manufacturing going, yes with State aid initially (which is why Boris must not bow to the French) and this will feed into the economy.

Lowering of Corporation tax would also be good to tempt companies to the UK. Labour never get this but a small amount from a large number is better than a large amount from a small number of people.
"Think JRM is worried about his tax bill increasing."

Well if he is such a rich toff as you make him out to be then surely he will simply off shore and pay less!

The tax question will surely be taken care of in 'the great reset' which is, apparently, what all this fake Covid is all about. :-)
