I went to a row of local shops this morning. They were all quite busy and apart from the assistants in them and me nobody was wearing a mask.
I don't believe I'm being over cautious. Are those shoppers being careless and risking their health?

as said i wear one because you can't get into local shops without. Whether they protect or not is a moot point. IIf its by law then people should abide by it. Those that don't are breaking the law. There is no way to police this, no way at all.
LB i only did when going to the hospital.
I'm not sure where you live Sandy but where I am (Dorset) the number not wearing masks in shops is about 1 in 200. Nearly everyone is.
as they do here in my area. Not all Londoners will comply, but last time i was in centre of town, you couldn't get into Primark, M&S without a mask
Sandy is in NI i think
Sadly, sandy, they are risking yours and the shopworkers' health. Ignorance, sheer ignorance.
What are the reasons for exemption of wearing a mask?

I wear a mask wherever I go and I'm wearing one at my parents and so are they. I do pull it down when out but only when there is no one around or quite far away from me.
boaty has an exemption for one, he has COPD and so has a badge to say why he can't wear a mask
Don’t know where you live sandy but, where I live, everyone wears them in the shops. However, some do dangle them round their chins when outside the shops.
as said he is in NI i believe...
//…shops can refuse you entry at any point.//

So long as they do not discriminate against you on the grounds of disability, which they may well be doing if you cannot wear a face covering because of a medical condition.

// Now it seems everyone is concerned about the ones that are not wearing one.//

Not, perhaps, quite everyone.
i was almost refused entry until i whipped out my little mask may it do me much good in the long term i wonder.
Members of my family that are exempt from wearing a mask due to health problems refuse to go out - they know they are more vulnerable because of their health problems.
Not everyone who is exempt can do that, but if it is possible they really should stay at home or just walk for exercise in an open, quiet area.
I live in Dorset, when I went up to the local shops Thurs virtually no one was wearing one, the Turks in the hairdressers had they round their necks and it was rammed (as usual).
The shoppers are just being realistic and not buying into the paranoia. Those that aren't already exempt of course. Not kowtowing to those demanding they abandon their basic individual western rights. Yes, dependent on age and/or other health issues, IMO you are being over cautious; you'd not put up with the palaver for flu, so no reason to for cov.
Wow is that Bournemouth ymb? I was talking Dorchester.
