Painting round the back of spindles

I have a staircase which runs up in between two walls and down one side there are spindles. They are stained an ugly orange brown colour at the moment and I want to paint them white. I bought some wood primer for sealing in the stain and have managed to cover most of the spindles apart from the back where they are too close to the wall (but you can still see the stain standing at the bottom of the stairs). Is there a special brush I could use to get round the back?

not sure. would it not be possible to use a small roller and do it from downstairs ?
bobwren - possibly, protect the wall with paper & dab primer on with a small sponge ?

Skyep - thanks for suggestion. Will give it a go.
i once saw a railing being painted. this chap had like a lambs wool glove, he used that as a brush, no problem if you can reach behind with your hand.
