Don't understand why Belgium is not first in using this vaccine, they have developed it and their needs are greater than ours! Have I missed something here?

// I'm really baffled as to why they're rushing to implement it.//

it is something to do with 500 deaths a day I think
//No, Dagman. Brexit did not speed up the vaccine arriving in Britain. It is because you are still under European law as Corby has said. Please research it before jumping to wrong conclusions. Hancock is not being truthful.//

Well there seems to be a difference of opinion about that. I’ll not argue because I don’t know all the ins and outs and politicians, whom I generally disbelieve until proved otherwise- especially when Covid is mentioned, are among the protagonists. But it seems remarkably coincidental that out of the 27 EU nations and the UK, only the UK has managed approval it so far.
Any/all of the other EU states could have gone for the same 'emergency use' option that the UK invoked - until 31/12 the UK is just the same as any other EU state for this purpose - why no other state has chosen to is an interesting question - but nothing to do with Brexit.
So I along with many others on here have been quick to pull the government apart in the last few months, and rightly so in many cases for being to slow, now we are not happy for them to approve the vaccine very quickly. Errrrr?
Apparently the US FDA and the EU Regulatory agencies have a similar methodology.
They receive the pharmaceutical companies’ trial data and scrutinised it before making an independent assessment of it.
The UK gets the data and a drug company report, and gives approval if the report stand up, and does little or no independent testing of the data or conclusions.
Either way, no one is being forced to take it. Younger people could choose not to have it, were a lot of older people may want it without any further question.
