I walk a lot and would like a wearable device to measure what distances I have done. I do not need any other information, i.e. blood pressure, music, heart rate etc. Pedometers do not look very accurate, unless they convert easily to mileage. I do not want to have to connect it to my smart phone but to be stand-alone. Any ideas? Cost up to £50 ideally. Thanks

An app, such as the one I used earlier today for checking how far I walked, uses data (free of charge) from GPS satellites. It doesn't connect to the mobile phone network and therefore needs to use no chargeable data at all: https://www.mapmywalk.com It's a freebie. Also very good, you have a nice video at the end of each activity.
I use my smartphone, too

Thanks! I didn't want to have to use an app. because that means I have to use mobile roaming on my phone and it gets expensive with PAYG - I normally have it turned off. Perhaps I am wrong though??

It's a freebie. You have to register for an account online but it's a simple, free process and you don't get bombarded with emails or ads through doing so. According to many review sites, and the technical press, it's by far the most popular app for tracking and measuring walking activity.
I use app on my phone I am also payg but my data roaming is off my mobile data is on and does not use much. I check my steps once I am home and on Wi-fi. I have the stepsapp.

Thanks all, sorry I haven't responded before, been out all day (walking!). Will give Buenchico's suggestion a go tomorrow.

Buenchico - the app you suggested is ideal, just what I wanted, simply giving distance walked and time taken, no need for mobile roaming, thanks!
Thanks for the feedback ;-)
