Am looking for inspiration for summer reading...on my list already is Atonement (Ian McEwan) and was looking for a book about Cocaine....something that traces its history and social impacts on society...has anyone read any such book?

Nothing whatever to do with Cocaine, but if you want a compelling summer read tangentially about the drugs industry I can't highly enough recommend John Le Carre's The Constant Gardener.
I havnt read it but there is a book called The White Stuff, (a social history of Cocaine) by Tim Madge
Ooh thanks from me for that Rose, i really want to read that! On my list is the count of Monte Cristo, the kalahari typing school for men, the marilyn tapes and probably something trashy...
There's a book called 'Cocaine' by Dominic Streatfeild (this is the correct spelling). It traces the history of cocaine from it's first uses housands of years ago in Peru and Bolivia right up to the crack problems of recent years. The author uses all sorts of information sources - from centuries old essays in the British Library to interviews with scientists, economists, ex-FBI agents and even major traffickers like George Jung (Blow) and the Ohcoa family. It's a brilliantly comprehensive book and very readable too.
i have read dominic streatfeild's cocaine book, and let me just say that he changed the way i think about cocaine in general, i feared it before , now , i still fear it , but also respect it lol . i really recommend this book
