Matt Monro had a suitable song for this movement:
"...many younger people fail to exercise that temperament and their ideals get the better of them"

As do so many older folk! Crikey,u only have to look at this site for scores of daily examples NJ!!!
What a fantastic initiative, let’s hope it heralds the next Richard Attenborough, U Thant, Alexander Fleming, Bill Gates or Amy Johnson.

We need pioneers, environmental champions and leaders in the 21st century, Christ knows we don’t need any more Trumps!

For those decrying the scheme, yeah, c’mon, let’s kick a few more teenagers hopes and dreams for a better future eh?
Indeed, Chill. I would like our future leaders to come from something like this rather than Eton cronies and dim, wealthy Americans.

chill: "What a fantastic initiative, let’s hope it heralds the next Richard Attenborough, U Thant, Alexander Fleming, Bill Gates or Amy Johnson. " - what scheme did they sign up for?
They may not all have had a scheme to inspire them or an initiative to guide them - is that any reason why we shouldn't today?

The constant put downs are quite ugly really, we need the young to step up to the plate and start to make their mark, we as their elders should be fully behind them spurring them on.

We should, Mamya. When you see some of the comments on here about young people you have to think....those making those comments have brought up or taught some of today's young. That answers many questions.
I agree with Mamy and Gness. There are some very disturbed young people around but there are also some very caring and thoughtful ones as well. We should do all we can to encourage them and maybe alter the minds of the disturbed ones.
Youthful passion for pioneering change seems deeply triggering for many older men. It’s embarrassing.
Who'd have funked it... Greta spreading it about

Well I’m guessing that somebody(parent, teacher, colleague, rival) spurred them on and that combined with their own gumption saw them triumph.
Everyone gets inspiration from somewhere, let’s ensured it continues with a bit of encouragement from others.
.....and whilst I can’t speak for the others, I’m guessing that the ‘scheme’ Alexander Fleming signed up for was called Medical School.
That, combined with his caring nature and inquisitive attitude obviously spurred him on to achieve what he did.
I do know that David Attenborough, from the age of seven, was inspired by Jacquetta Hawkes and later by Archibald Belaney. Just look at what their influence did!
Would Bill Gates and Paul Allen have been quite as successful without Henry Roberts to look up to?
It doesn't have to be a scheme. Could be a wonderful teacher. Could be somebody who fires your enthusiasm.

Why some think that a scheme to bring out the best in our young is a load of old pony is beyond me.
Do we want more Gretas or Peters? ;-)
What did poor old Dickie do to end up on Chilli's rather odd list?
