Further to my question below

How much of the design of the extension would be expected to be in the Architect's drawing

We know what we want and where - eg appliances etc
Should the architect's drawing include cupboards appliances etc ?

Your choice entirely Baz.
He could just mark which rooms are the kitchen or utility rooms are. Then, you would go around with the kitchen designer, plumber, electrician, separately and set the positions.

That way gives you most flexibility, and the chance to change your mind.
If you leave it to the architect (and many do) you will have to decide beforehand where everything is going. That's no problem, but you will have to make sure he knows your thoughts.
The advantage here is that the builder will know from the start where the drains need to be etc.

Although layouts often change during the work, the most common way is to let the architect draw it all, so at least you have a starting point.
Don't worry too much. A decent builder and tradesmen are quite used to altering things if needs be.

thanks TB

So whats included in the quote for his fees which he has provided ?

He says "working drawings" Baz.
This means detailed drawings that can be assessed for Building Regs purposes.
There are various Regs applying to kitchens. The plans would have to take account of these. So it looks like the layout is included.
He mentions discussions with the client, so you'll have to do a rough sketch of where you would like everything to go.

Would his fee still be reasonable , even if the layout is not included in it ?

Yes, definitely Baz.
It's a very good price, and it doesn't take much to draw out a kitchen plan when you've done the layout yourself.

The work is mostly in the site survey/measurements and Building Regs considerations.
