Well no, Sqad. The only places you could touch were your own sides. There are many theories as to why this style of dancing developed.
The Catholic Church considered moving the arms was flirting. Priests monitored the dancing.

Irish pubs are so crowded that there was no room to move the arms when dancing.

When the English invaded Ireland and looked out of their windows at the Irish dancing they could only see the top half of the dancer. It then looked to the English that the Irish were jumping for joy at the presence of the invaders.... :-)
Lol - reminds me of Father Noel Furlong.

If katya is not gay then there cant be any chemistry between them.

Ballroom dancing is based on the attraction between the sexes, it's like a courtship dance that has developed through time.
I'm so fed up with these conversations.

Any dance can be performed by anyone! Welcome to 2020...

Utter, utter bow locks. If danced has "developed through time" as you call it, it's developed away from being a courtship ritual.
I remember Joyce Grenfell singing a song about women dancing together. “Belly to Belly, Bust to Bust!”
Anyone can do any dance, Ummmm? You are so wrong there...but then you've probably not seen Dave "dance".... ;-)
