I entered into a 6 month consultancy agreement with a company in London, on the basis that they would offer me a permanent job thereafter. Due to Covid we both agreed the permanent job was off the table for the time being. I carried on on my consultancy contract with no written amendments, apart form me suggesting a 10% cut in my fees as management had all taken salary sacrifice so i was happy to follow suit. The agreement would have officially finished in July and the break clause by either party was 3 months notice. They have now given me notice and said it is only 1 month as the contract had expired, and therefore the 3 months was invalid?

Have they paid you July to Oct? As you knew it would terminate in July, I think it was incumbent upon you to contact them to ask about extending it. You can't really argue one way that something is agreed and then argue the other way and say they've not given you notice.
