Just a heads up really. Had a call from this number 0203 309 8557.
There was a delay before anyone spoke, but recognised it was an automated voice. “ This is the HMRC, you are being investigated for tax fraud. To speak with someone about this press 1 “ I hung up obviously.

How do you speak to an automated phone call?
That's what I was wondering.
// How do you speak to an automated phone call? //

get it to talk to Alexa?
Mushroom //get it to talk to Alexa?
There is nobody at the other end of the line to talk to.
Presumably you have to press 1 then get put through to a scammer. Risky, I would have thought.
Yes I pressed 1 but I knew I could claim any charges as I reported it to our scam department
This is the way!

That number is rated as Dangerous Bob! Ooer:-)

Pressing one on any unsolicited telephone call could take you through to a premium rate line and the cost could be very very high; especially if you were to do as suggested by Martin ^^^.

If a real person speaks to you the moment your answer the call, then by all means 'string them along' for as long as possible. Then tell them as, I do when they ask for payment by card, "I am unable to pass money by card, but if you give me your bank details I can arrange a transfer of money from my bank."

Hans.
The other day I was discussing my bill with Bt got too confusing for me so left it for another day .Later that day I got this call to say if I did not do what ever my Bt telephone and broadband would be cut off immediately . Now were these people able to listen in to the conversation I had with bt or was that coincidence
you're sure you were speaking to BT in the first place, weecalf?
