Hello, my Father has recently been given one of these phones free of charge by Virgin mobile, (yes we know its ancient and obsolete, but its perfectly adequate for my elderly father who just needs a mobile for emergencies,). My question is this, above the screen display, next to the battery charge indicator there is a small musical note symbol, we cant find any mention of this in the user manual, so can someone tell me what it means?!

The chosen ring tone will ring if there is a call. If the ringer is switched to vibrate or silent a cross will appear over the musical note and another symbol will appear alongside it

The music note indicates the ringer type for the phone's call alert.

Thanks Barry, could you explain that a bit more? What do you mean by 'ringer type'?

Ah, I understand, thanks for the help!
Mrs A and me have got ancient Nokias which we keep 'just in case' our more modern Samsungs go bad.

Biggest problem on the Nokias is that texting is next-to-impossible (which is why we switched to the Samsungs, where even our old eyes and fingers can handle).

Why is texting on a Nokia "next to impossible"? I seem to manage it on my iconic Nokia!
If texting is next to impossible you need a new dictionary.
Because on our 20-year-old Nokias you have no keyboard, and have to repeatedly press the number keys to get a letter.
