Wales In Lockdown And Shopping.

Had a disagreement with the wife, but found out via the news she was right.
All but essential shops to shut here in Wales. Places like Asda allowed to sell essential items like food but not a kettle. Video news report of shelf’s covered over with plastic sheeting.
So I can’t get a haircut. Wife can’t get a manicure/ makeover. We go to Asda or another store. I can’t buy a pair of scissors. Wife can’t buy a mascara. Crazy.

Yes, it was on the news. These items has to be covered up or sealed off.

I read about it last night. Apparently it's to protect the small local shops that have to shut completely. Which makes some sense. But it will drive more to online shopping and possibly permanently...and in the end, not helping local shops at all.

I think that is a given. From my point of view all it will do is hasten the demise of such shops.

Purist //what happens if your kettle breaks?//
You boil water in a pan on the hob or in a microwave. When there is no lock-down in operation you still need hot water between the kettle breaking and you being able to go out to buy a new one, so you improvise.

The biggest problem with all politicians is that they feel they have to be seen to be doing something all the time.

Next is the need to copy from other politicians then add their own twist.

Seems that if they pause to reflect some other waster will steal their job.

I’m originally from South Wales so have FB friends who still live there and I follow news pages for the area. The posts I have been reading have been vociferous in calling for stricter measures to control the virus, now they have them and people are moaning about them (and they had fair warning that they were coming).

Tesco certainly cornered the market from the last lock down.....they continued to sell anything/everything when the smaller shops had to close.

So the way I see it is....

By preventing non essential sales it will (a) prevent people going to shops unnecessarily so shops will
Have less people (b) will
Mean people spend shorter time in shops (c) touch less items in shops.

Ps this does not mean I agree with it ... just giving reasons why it may be

I think eve is right. There are people for whom shopping is a hobby and a way to socialise. By closing non-essential shops it stops such people from wandering around and so cuts down the spread.
